Emergency medical and trip length

The policy wording dated September 1, 2026 lists emergency medical coverage up to $10 million, with a maximum of $25,000 for Canadian residents without active government health coverage. Visitors to Canada offers coverage options from $25,000 to $150,000. One CAASCO page says the Multi-Trip plan has a maximum of $5 million, while the Multi-Trip page and the policy wording say $10 million, so confirm the figure before you buy.

Trip length rules:

  • Single Trip Plan: the lesser of your government health plan’s period or 365 days
  • Multi-Trip Plan: 4, 8, 15, 30 or 60 days per trip, with top-ups and no maximum day limit within Canada
  • Multi-Trip Vacation Package: 4, 8, 15 or 30 days; trips can’t exceed 63 days in total at ages 60 to 84
  • Vacation Package Plan: 63 days maximum at ages 60 to 84; no policy extends beyond 365 days

Pre-existing conditions and stability periods

CAA lists these stability periods before each departure:

  • Single Trip, Multi-Trip, Multi-Trip Vacation Package and top-ups: three months under 70, six months at 70 and over
  • Vacation Package Plan: three months under 60, six months at 60 to 84
  • Canada Plan and Canada Vacation Package Plan: no pre-existing condition exclusion

Age limits and the medical questionnaire

The Single Trip, Canada and Multi-Trip medical plans have no maximum age limit. The Vacation Package and Multi-Trip Vacation Package have an age limit of 84. CAA says a medical questionnaire may be required if you’re 60 or older. Age limits for the visitors plan weren’t stated. Answer every question accurately, since incorrect answers can affect a claim.

Buying, claims and COVID notes

You can buy online. An optional deductible is available on the Single Trip, Canada and Multi-Trip plans, stated in US dollars and applied per insured, per covered condition or event. The amounts aren’t listed, except a $50 minimum on Visitors to Canada. Trip cancellation and interruption includes Cancel For Any Reason and Interrupt For Any Reason options (up to 50% of the sum insured, or 75% for travel booked through CAA) and has no stability requirement for pre-existing conditions. The Multi-Trip Vacation Package lists trip cancellation of $2,000 to $5,000 per trip, to $10,000 per year, and baggage up to $1,500.

Contact CAA Assistance before treatment, or benefits drop to 80% to a maximum of $25,000. The Emergency Medical page lists COVID protection subject to conditions, but the policy wording has no COVID-specific clause, only a travel advisory exclusion that doesn’t apply to unrelated medical emergencies.
