Walmart Rewards is the rewards program on Walmart Canada’s credit cards, the Walmart Rewards™ Mastercard® and the Walmart Rewards™ World Mastercard®. Both are issued by Fairstone Bank of Canada. Every eligible purchase on the card earns Walmart Reward Dollars, which you spend at Walmart.
We review the Walmart Rewards Mastercard. The program changed on September 18, 2025, when Walmart and Fairstone relaunched the card with a higher rate at Walmart. Under the terms in force before that, the standard card earned 1% everywhere plus another 0.25% at Walmart.
What Walmart Reward Dollars are worth
One Reward Dollar takes $1 off an eligible purchase at a Walmart store in Canada or on Walmart.ca. That makes the program easy to value: 3% back in Reward Dollars is worth 3% of what you spend, as long as you shop at Walmart anyway.
Walmart’s redemption FAQ says you can redeem for virtually anything Walmart sells, including groceries and Marketplace items from third-party sellers on Walmart.ca.

Some charges earn nothing. The terms exclude balance transfers, purchases on the card’s Installment Plan, purchases through Walmart’s online pharmacy platforms outside Québec, and tips to delivery drivers on Walmart.ca orders.
Walmart says Reward Dollars usually show up the next business day after a purchase posts, and that there’s no limit on how many you can earn.
How to redeem Reward Dollars
In a Walmart storePay with your physical card and have it swiped or scanned at the till. The card reader shows how many Reward Dollars you can use.
On Walmart.caSign in, make sure the card is saved as a payment method, and choose to redeem Reward Dollars at checkout.
Pick the amountRedeem in $5 increments. The purchase has to be at least $5 before tax.
Pay the restAnything the Reward Dollars don’t cover goes on another form of payment.
The terms give a worked example: a $72.35 grocery bill with $63.77 in Reward Dollars on the account. You can redeem $60, the highest $5 step below the bill, and pay the other $12.35 another way. A bill of $4.45 before tax can’t take Reward Dollars at all.
You can’t redeem through Apple Pay or Google Pay. The terms say redemptions in store or online can’t go through a mobile wallet.
Reward Dollars earned on a purchase can’t be used on that same purchase.
They can’t be used on tobacco, lottery tickets, alcohol, prescription medication, money transfer services or cash-like transactions.
On an AutoSave subscription, Walmart says you can redeem on the first delivery only.
Cancel a Walmart.ca order within 30 minutes and Walmart says the Reward Dollars go back to your account.

What a year of Walmart Rewards earns
Walmart’s own example uses $3,550 a month of household retail spending: $1,285 at Walmart and $2,265 everywhere else. At 3% and 1%, that’s about $735 in Reward Dollars a year.

The 3% does most of the work. If little of your spending happens at Walmart, the card is closer to a 1% card whose rewards you can only spend in one store.
The Walmart+ statement credit
Walmart+ is Walmart’s membership, formerly called Delivery Pass. Pay for a regularly priced annual Walmart+ membership online at Walmart.ca with the card and you get a statement credit, plus applicable taxes: 3 months’ worth on the Walmart Rewards Mastercard or 6 months’ worth on the World version.
Walmart says the credit posts within 45 business days of the purchase. It only helps if you’d buy an annual Walmart+ membership anyway.
Rules that catch people
No expiry, but not forever: Walmart says Reward Dollars don’t expire, yet the terms forfeit them all if you or Fairstone close the account. Spend them before you cancel.
Good standing: you can’t redeem while the account isn’t in good standing, for example after missed payments.
Bring the card: in store, redemptions need the physical card swiped or scanned.
Before tax at Walmart, after tax elsewhere: the 3% is counted on the pre-tax amount at Walmart, the 1% on the after-tax amount everywhere else.
Returns: Walmart says a return refunds the Reward Dollars you used on that purchase.
Who Walmart Rewards suits
It suits households that already buy most of their groceries and essentials at Walmart and want a card with no annual fee. For them, 3% back in something they’ll spend at Walmart anyway is close to 3% cash back.
If most of your spending is elsewhere, or you want rewards you can use anywhere, a cash back card with a strong grocery rate may suit you better. Compare the options on our grocery cards and cash back cards pages.
