How we compare products
Last updated October 12, 2026
CreditLab exists to put the numbers in front of you. This page explains where those numbers come from and how we use them, so you can check our work.
1. What we collect
For every product we track, we record the facts that affect what it costs you:
- The issuer and the product’s official name
- The annual or monthly fee, converted to a yearly amount
- For credit cards, the foreign transaction fee charged on purchases in other currencies
As our database grows we will add earn rates, welcome offers, interest rates and insurance coverage, and we will update this page when we do.
2. Where the data comes from
We use each issuer’s own published terms and disclosures as the source of truth. When an issuer changes its terms, we update our records. If a value can’t be confirmed, we show “Check issuer” rather than guess.
3. How we compare
We compare like with like: credit cards against credit cards, chequing accounts against chequing accounts. Our lists are sorted by the fact in the list’s title, for example lowest annual fee first in a list of cards with no foreign transaction fee.
4. What partners can and can’t influence
Some products link to partners who may pay us when you apply. That can affect where a product appears on a page. It never changes the fees and facts we show, and it never buys a product a place in a fact-based list it doesn’t qualify for. Read more in how we make money.
5. Corrections
Spotted something out of date? Tell us and we’ll check it against the issuer’s terms and correct it.
