CIBC Aventura points are worth the most on flights booked with the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart: a round trip within Canada or the US costs 10,000 to 35,000 points against a maximum ticket price, which works out to between about 1.6 and 2.3 cents a point at the top of each range. Used for other travel they’re worth 1 cent, and against your card balance 0.625 cents.

Aventura is CIBC’s travel rewards program. You earn Aventura points on CIBC Aventura credit cards, then redeem them for flights, other travel, merchandise and gift cards, or payments to your card and other CIBC products. Travel is booked through the CIBC Rewards Centre, which CIBC says has used Expedia as its travel supplier since October 1, 2024.
This is where Aventura points are worth the most. Instead of converting points to dollars, the chart sets a points price for a round-trip economy flight in each region, up to a maximum ticket price before taxes. CIBC says the exact points within each range depend on the fare the airline sets.

The last column divides the maximum ticket price by the top of the points range. A cheaper fare costs fewer points, so check your own booking: divide the base fare by the points it costs.
Taxes and other charges aren’t included. Charge them to your card or pay them with points at the Flexible Travel rate.
If the fare is above the maximum ticket price, you pay the difference in cash or points.
You need at least 80% of the points for the flight; CIBC lets you buy up to 20%.
Chart tickets are non-refundable, and CIBC can change the chart without notice.
CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders also get a business class chart, from 40,000 points for a short-haul round trip up to $1,000 to 150,000 points for Europe up to $3,000.

Worked example: 30,000 points from a year on a Visa Infinite card fall inside the 25,000 to 35,000 range for a long-haul round trip in Canada or the US, a fare that can be up to $800 before taxes. As a card payment, the same 30,000 points are worth $187.50.
Expiry and account rules
CIBC says Aventura points don’t expire.
If you close your Aventura card yourself, unredeemed points are cancelled after 60 days.
If CIBC closes the account, for example because it isn’t in good standing, the terms say all points are forfeited immediately.
Points have no cash value and can’t be turned into a credit on your balance except through Payment with Points or Shopping with Points.
Getting the most from Aventura
Save points for flights on the chart, especially round trips within Canada and the US, where the value is highest.
Compare the fare with the maximum ticket price: a fare close to the maximum gets the most from your points.
Pay taxes in cash if you can, since points on taxes are worth only 1 cent.
Avoid Payment with Points unless you need it; it’s the weakest common option at 0.625 cents.
Before you cancel a card, redeem within 60 days.
Who CIBC Aventura suits
It suits CIBC cardholders who fly within North America and are happy to book through the CIBC Rewards Centre. On the chart, a Visa Infinite card’s grocery and gas rate is worth about 3%, which is strong for a $139 card.
It depends on how you redeem. On the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart they can be worth about 2 cents each near the maximum fares. Other travel is 1 cent (100 points = $1), and payments to your card balance are 0.625 cents (4,000 points = $25).
How many Aventura points do I need for a flight?
On the chart, a round-trip economy flight costs 10,000 to 20,000 points for short-haul in Canada and the US, 25,000 to 35,000 for long-haul, 40,000 to 60,000 for Mexico and the Caribbean, 50,000 to 70,000 for Europe and 75,000 to 125,000 elsewhere, plus taxes.
What is the maximum ticket price on the Aventura chart?
Each region has a cap on the base fare: $400 short-haul, $800 long-haul in Canada and the US, $1,000 for Mexico and the Caribbean, $1,300 for Europe and $2,000 for the rest of the world. You pay anything above it, and taxes, separately.
Do CIBC Aventura points expire?
CIBC says they don’t expire. If you close your card, you have 60 days to redeem them before they’re cancelled.
Can I use Aventura points to pay my credit card bill?
Yes, with Payment with Points, starting at 4,000 points for a $25 payment. That’s 0.625 cents a point, well below what the points are worth on flights.
Can I put Aventura points toward my mortgage or TFSA?
Yes. CIBC’s Financial Products with Points start at 12,000 points for a $100 payment or contribution to a CIBC mortgage, TFSA or RRSP savings account, line of credit, loan or Investor’s Edge account.
Do I have to book through CIBC to use the flight chart?
Yes. The chart applies to round-trip flights booked through the CIBC Rewards Centre, online or by phone.
What if I don’t have enough points for a flight?
CIBC says you need at least 80% of the points the flight requires, and you can buy up to 20% of them.
