Our detailed review

Desjardins GIC rates by term

Desjardins calls its GICs term savings. We read these rates from Desjardins’ Quebec website, last checked October 15, 2026. Rates change often, and Desjardins Ontario Credit Union rates may differ, so confirm before you invest.

Desjardins prices two non-redeemable products. Term S@vings is sold online only on AccesD for 1 to 5 years. Term Savings is sold at a caisse or branch, or by phone, from 30 days to 10 years. Both are regular rates, not limited-time offers.

  • 1, 2 and 3 years: 3.40% online, 3.30% at a caisse
  • 4 years: 3.45% online, 3.35% at a caisse
  • 5 years: 4.10% online, 4.00% at a caisse
  • 6 to 10 years: 4.00%, by phone or at a caisse
  • Under 1 year: 1.70% to 2.30%, $5,000 minimum

Redeemable and other Desjardins term savings

Redeemable Savings pays 2.00% on a 1-year term. You can redeem all or part at any time for free, but you earn no interest if you redeem in the first 30 days, partial redemptions must be at least $1,000, and $1,000 must stay invested.

Redeemable Climbing-Rate Term Savings raises your rate each year and averages 3.15% over 3 years or 3.85% over 5 years. You can redeem on each anniversary date, at an appointment at a caisse or branch.

Desjardins also offers Regular Income Term Savings and Personalized Annuity Term Savings for RRIF or LIF income, both at 3.30% to 4.00% for 1 to 5 years, plus market-linked guaranteed investments. A pre-TFSA promotion lets you invest your 2027 TFSA contribution until December 31, 2026 at 2.40% online or 2.25% at a caisse, maturing January 4, 2027.

Registered plans and how interest is paid

Desjardins term savings can be held in a TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RRIF, RDSP, LIRA or LIF. The minimum is $500 in a registered plan and $1,000 in a non-registered account. RESP eligibility isn’t listed on the pages we read.

Some term savings let you choose simple or compound interest. Simple interest is earned on your principal and can be deposited each year into another account. Compound interest is reinvested in the term savings each year. Desjardins doesn’t describe monthly payout options on these pages.

Deposit insurance

Each Desjardins caisse is an authorized deposit institution in Quebec, where the AMF protects insurable deposits up to $100,000 per person, per deposit category. Desjardins says term savings are eligible for deposit insurance up to a limit, and notes that CDIC and FSRA in Ontario generally apply the same rules.

How to buy Desjardins term savings

Term S@vings is sold only online on AccesD. For branch Term Savings, book an appointment through AccesD, in person, online or by phone at 1-800-224-7737. Terms under 1 year or over 5 years are sold by phone or at a caisse. You can renew online on AccesD from 25 days before maturity.
