Our detailed review

TD GIC rates by term

We read these rates from TD’s website and rate service, last checked October 15, 2026. GIC rates change often, so confirm the current rate with TD before you invest.

TD’s standard non-cashable product is the GIC Long-Term, sold as a simple interest or compound interest GIC at the same rate. TD pays the same rate in every deposit tier, so a small deposit earns what a large one does. TD doesn’t show a 1-year special, so 3.00% is its posted 1-year rate.

  • 1 year: 3.00%
  • 2 years: 3.20%
  • 3 years: 3.30%
  • 4 years: 3.35%
  • 5 years: 3.55%
  • GIC Short-Term (30 to 270 days): 1.80% to 2.05%, simple interest at maturity

Special Offer GICs

TD lists limited-time Special Offer GICs. The non-cashable versions pay 3.05% for 14 months and 3.25% for 18 months, with compound interest calculated annually and paid at maturity. A 100-day cashable Special Offer GIC pays 1.80%. TD doesn’t give an end date for these rates.

Note that Special Offer GICs renew automatically into another Special Offer GIC of the same term, so check the renewal rate before maturity if you want to move your money.

Cashable and other TD GICs

The TD 1-Year Cashable GIC pays 1.75% and can be cashed in full or in part after 30 days, with tiered cash-out rates for early cashing. The TD 3-Year Premium Rate Cashable GIC pays 2.50% and can be cashed at any time at tiered rates, but pays no interest if redeemed before 91 days. A Short Term Cashable GIC for 1 to 29 days needs $100,000.

TD also offers a 5-Year Stepper GIC whose rate escalates each year, Market Growth GICs linked to Canadian banks, utilities and U.S. stocks with a guaranteed minimum return, and U.S. dollar GICs paying 3.90% to 4.10% for 1 to 5 years in non-registered accounts.

Registered plans, interest and insurance

TD GICs can be held in a TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RRIF or RESP. Long-term GICs need $500 in an RSP, RIF, RESP or FHSA and $1,000 in a TFSA or non-registered account. TD’s GIC pages don’t mention RDSP eligibility.

Compound interest GICs and Special Offer GICs calculate interest annually and pay it at maturity. Short-term GICs pay simple interest at maturity. TD’s pages don’t describe payout frequencies for the simple interest Long-Term GIC, so ask if you want annual or monthly income.

TD says its GICs are eligible for CDIC insurance of up to $100,000 per CDIC member for each insured category.

How to buy a TD GIC

Existing TD customers can buy GICs online by signing in to EasyWeb. You can also book an appointment at a branch or call 1-888-568-0951. TD’s pages don’t say whether you can buy in the TD app.
