The bottom line
Humania Assurance offers two term lines through advisors. HuGO Life covers $50,000 to $5,000,000 with terms from T10 to T30 plus T80 and T100, and has no built-in medical requirements under $1,000,000, depending on your answers. Insurance Without Medical Exam (IWME) Life offers T10, T20 and T100 with Simplified Issue tiers and a Guaranteed Issue tier. No-exam amounts are much smaller, and pre-existing condition clauses apply.
Pros & cons
Pros

- Simplified Issue asks only 6 eligibility questions
- HuGO has no built-in medical requirements under $1,000,000
- Wide range of HuGO terms, including T80 and T100

Cons
- No-exam IWME coverage amounts are much lower
- Pre-existing condition clauses and a 24-month limit on Guaranteed Issue

Our detailed review
HuGO and IWME Life: two term lines
Humania Assurance (the consumer site’s footer reads Humania Insurance Inc.) sells term life in two lines. HuGO is its online, paperless process sold through advisors, with terms of T10, T15, T20, T25 and T30, plus T80 and T100 for longer protection. Humania says over 65% of HuGO customers are insured on the spot in less than 45 minutes.
Insurance Without Medical Exam (IWME) Life is the no-exam line, with T10, T20 and T100. It has Simplified Issue tiers called Gold, Silver and Bronze, and a Guaranteed Issue tier called Copper.
Coverage amounts and issue ages
HuGO Life covers $50,000 to $5,000,000 and is available from age 18 to 70. IWME amounts are much smaller and depend on the tier. Humania’s consumer page puts the Simplified Issue T10 and T20 maximum at $300,000 or $500,000; its advisor page describes a higher Gold limit for clients 50 and under, so confirm with an advisor. The Copper Guaranteed Issue tier covers $5,000 to $100,000 for T10 or T20.
IWME T10 and T20 are available from 18 to 70 inclusive. Humania’s advisor page says T100 is available to age 80, while the consumer page lists 18 to 70, so older applicants should confirm eligibility.
Medical questions and no-exam rules
HuGO has no built-in medical requirements for applications under $1,000,000, depending on your answers to the application.
IWME requires no medical exam. The Simplified Issue tiers ask only 6 eligibility questions online, with no questions about previous declines and no driving record or medical reports. Humania says Simplified Issue policies are issued instantly, and its consumer page says in 10 minutes. A few limits apply:
- Height and weight are required for amounts over $300,000
- Questions on high-risk sports and travel abroad apply over $500,000
- Simplified Issue has 12 or 24-month pre-existing condition clauses
- Copper pays no benefit in the 24 months after underwriting, except for an accident
Renewal, conversion and riders
IWME T10 and T20 have guaranteed renewal until age 80. Humania’s life insurance page mentions an option to renew at the end of your contract but doesn’t state a HuGO renewal age. HuGO can be converted to T100 before age 65, and you can exchange it for a longer term in the first 5 years. IWME allows conversion for a maximum amount equal to the initial coverage; the target plan and age limit aren’t stated on Humania’s web pages. Riders and add-ons include:
- HuGO: accidental death and dismemberment up to $500,000
- HuGO: premium waiver on disability
- HuGO: dependant child life insurance in $15,000 or $25,000 amounts, with no underwriting questions
- HuGO: critical illness up to $75,000, a separate contract for standard-rated policies of $100,000 or more
- IWME: an optional guarantee of refund of premiums after 20 years
How to apply
Humania’s consumer pages ask you to find an advisor to get a quote. HuGO’s start-to-finish online process and IWME’s online eligibility questions are described on Humania’s advisor pages, so we couldn’t confirm that you can buy directly online. Expect an advisor to guide the application.
